Book Review: Seeds of Turmoil

Seeds of Turmoil by Bryan Wright

Seeds of Turmoil is a Biblical reference and discovery for today’s issues in the Middle East. Many people fight for peace in the Middle East and wonder why there always seems to be conflict and hatred coming out of that part of the world. This book takes you back to the very beginning, the book of Genesis, and traces the issues and lineage of the conflict through time.

I was excited to read this book because I wanted to finally understand, from a true Biblical perspective, the reasons for the ever-present conflict in the Middle East. After all, my husband has served in two wars in the Iraq region and is getting ready to serve in Afghanistan, so I had a good reason to want to learn. I was initially disappointed in the book, as the first few chapters kept repeating the same thing over and over again….yes, Abraham and Sarah made a mistake…got it. I am glad I kept reading though because it did teach me a lot and finally moved on from the Abraham/Sarah issue. However, the book ABRUPTLY ended in my opinion. I was left flipping through the Glossary, thinking there had to be more….it has to wrap up somewhere. Nope, it just drops you off without warning. I assume the author covered everything that needed to be covered, but there was no clear ending…no wrap up or conclusion. Well, even with those faults, it’s a good book to read and provides lots of Scriptural proof to back up the conflict in the Middle East.

I was checking out CravingSavings' blog and saw a link for Our Coupon Home.  I decided to give it a try and join.  I have been very pleased with the members on this board and the things their site covers.  It's not as big as some other boards I belong to like HCW, but that actually makes it better for those of you starting out in coupon boards.

Check it out and join HERE!  Let me know what you think after you've joined and looked around!

You can also access their site any time by clicking on their button on the right side of my page...it's labeled 'Our Coupon Home'.

$1.50 MM on Carmex Moisture Plus

Right now the Carmex Moisture Plus lip treatments are supposed to be on sale for $2.99 with a $2 RR.  Well, I went to get one yesterday and my $1/1 coupon beeped because the Carmex only rang up at $0.50!  Heck, I ditched the coupon and bought the Carmex at $0.50, hoping that it would still spit out the $2 RR.  IT DID!!  I did the deal again today and it is still working.

If you get the Wags coupon policy from here, you should be able to use the $1/1 coupon (no prints available) if you still have it and have the coupon adjusted down.  Now, I'll warn you, this is a new policy for most Wags (especially in our area), so you may get a little flack from the cashier.  I'd gently show them the policy that is on THEIR website!

Code Trading

I thought it'd be nice for us to have a resource for trading codes, etc of things we collect.

I personally use:
Coke codes (Coke products, Powerade, Minute Maid, etc)
Pop Tart codes (inside specially marked flavor card packages-code printed on inside of the box)

I can use to trade for codes I need:
Huggies Enjoy the Ride points (on/inside packages)
Pampers points (on/inside packages)
Amazon diaper discount codes (card insert in various magazines...Parents, etc during September)

If you have anything that you won't use....just send it to me in an email.

If you want to add what you collect here...leave a comment and we'll keep this going! Once I know someone uses a certain type of codes, if I get emails about them, I will forward them on to you! Hopefully, we can help eachother out in our search for cheap/free stuff!

New Mueller's pasta $2/5 coupon

Got this in my email today.  Not a fantastic coupon, but if you catch these on sale and you're brand loyal....it could work out pretty well for you.  Mueller's hardly ever has coupons out and when they do, they're usually .55/3 or something like that.

Walgreens Clearance Alert

The Wags on 419/221 has:

Vegetable seed packets for .09/ea (back endcap by shaving supplies) - I got several of the carrots

Ball canning jars for about $6/case (Walmart probably has them priced better) - they were all out of the lids which were marked at $1.32/ea....this would have been nice to pair with the $1/1 canning item q from the 8/1 RP.  There were also $1/1 jar case q's in the 8/1 RP.

Anyone found any other good clearance deals at Wags?

Check out their blog post about the video game swag code hunt. It looks worse than it is. First, get to the right section of the video games (hint is "where xx and xx were BORN...i.e., BEGINNING...uuhhhummm). Then, know who Mr. Padre is (look at a pic of him on wikipedia) and you'll be able to put 2 and 2 together. It only took me a couple minutes to find it.

Book Review: The Boy Who Changed the World by Andy Andrews

This book is the children's version of The Butterfly Effect, but honestly.....I liked this one better!!

The Boy Who Changed the World by Andy Andrews

The Boy Who Changed the World shows, in a simplistic yet powerful way, the effect one person, one decision, had on the life of everyone living in the past, living now, or who ever will live. The author talks about the life of George Washington Carver and the effect people had on him and the effects his discoveries have had on people today in a way that children can easily understand. This book is filled with reverse chronological cause and effects that give you pause to the effect your life has on the rest of humanity.

This book is not just enjoyable and relevant for children, but also for adults. Such simple thoughts, simple statements, small actions that this book covers have had a profound impact on all of humanity. This book is thought-provoking and truly makes you see that every action, every word, every person has an impact on everyone around you and on the future. You can not read this book and ever see your life as menial or insignificant. I actually enjoyed this children’s book more than I did its adult counterpart, The Butterfly Effect.

Book Review: The Butterfly Effect

The Butterfly Effect: How Your Life Matters by Andy Andrews

The Butterfly Effect begins with the story of a colonel in the Union Army and the effect one man, one decision, had on the life of everyone living then, living now, or who ever will live. The author also talks about the life of George Washington Carver and the effect people had on him and the effects his discoveries have had on people today. This book is filled with reverse chronological cause and effects that give you pause to the effect your life has on the rest of humanity.

At first glance, I thought the book to be simple and that it couldn’t possibly be moving or thought provoking in such short text. However, as I reached the middle of the book I realized that I was completely wrong. Such simple thoughts, simple statements, small actions that this book covers have had a profound impact on all of humanity. This book is thought-provoking and truly makes you see that every action, every word, every person has an impact on everyone around you and on the future. You can not read this book and ever see your life as menial or insignificant.

Book Review: Wonders Never Cease

As most of you know, I belong to BookSneeze, a site that brings together a community of bloggers to review books.  I just finished Wonders Never Cease and I can truly tell you that I could barely put the book down.  What I learned (again--you need to constantly remind yourself of this):  When you hear God leading you, you need to follow, regardless of your excuses or how you view your present circumstances.  If God is calling you somewhere, He's not going to let you fall when you follow Him.  Okay, on to the official book review....

Wonders Never Cease by Tim Downs

Summary

Wonders Never Cease is a fictional series of events, but the book does a wonderful job at describing the effects our lives, our choices, have on many other people’s lives. A man’s greed leads him to concoct a plan to portray himself as an angel to a woman who has just been in a serious accident. His plan, however, spirals out of control and ends up bringing numerous other people into the fold. His greed consumes him and ultimately destroys his career and his relationships.

My Reactions

This book is a must-read for all kinds of people. I found it impossible to put the book down and was gripped by the way the main character’s choices had an impact on so many other people around him. Greed is a powerful force and can destroy more than just your own life. So many people go through life with a closed mind, but as one of the characters points out in the book, you can’t accept a possibility unless you’re open to the possibility. This book makes you realize that although it is easy to see the mistakes in someone else’s life, it is not always so easy to see your own. You have to keep an open mind and let God direct your life or it can go devastatingly wrong, like it did for the main character.
