Electric Consumption

Posted 1/25/10

I know this doesn't have to do with coupons or deals, but I know all of us have seen a dramatic increase in our monthly electric bill from AEP. Strangely, AEP's website has some good tools to reduce your power consumption and calculate cost for various things in your home.

This page will lead you to three choices: home, appliance, and lighting. Take a look through each one of these sections to see how much power a particular item or setting consumes. They also have power/money savings tips on their website, so be sure to take a look at these as well.

https://www.appalachianpower.com/save/calculate/Default.aspx

Please go here to the SCC's website to comment on AEP's rate increase application.

If you read me....please follow me!

If you read my blog, please consider "following" my blog. You can do this by clicking on the "Follow" button to the right side of the screen.

This helps me in several ways:
1. I know that I am reaching people and not maintaining this blog if no one is reading it.

2. Sponsors of giveaways and samples look at how many followers you have to see if they want to offer us a prize pack giveaway or sample items. If a site doesn't have many followers, they judge that the site is not getting out to enough people in order to offer special products and samples to the readers.

3. I can tailor posts and store information to the people who I know are reading this blog. If I know people in the NRV are reading it, I can look for more deals and information specific to that area.

Also, consider leaving comments if you like something I have posted or have some deals that you have found. I love to read what others think about this site and I'm willing to change it if people need something a little different.

Thank you!!

Food Lion

Food Lion is having their private brand sale again. Any item that is a Food Lion private brand will score you $0.25 off your next purchase. The official breakdown is this:

Buy 4 save $1.00
Buy 6 save $1.50
Buy 8 save $2.00
Buy 10 save $2.50
Buy 20 save $5.00
Buy 40 save $10.00

Keep in mind, you DON'T have to purchase the exact amount of items to get the coupon. You do have to purchase at least 4 in one transaction to get the coupon to print, but anything above that will produce a coupon according to the number of items you purchased (at least that's the way it was last time they had this sale).

Here are some great ideas for super cheap items (price is after OYNO coupon):

Food Lion Yogurt 6 oz cup <20¢
Food Lion Jello ~ .05¢
Home 360 Rubber Bands, Erasers, Pencil Sharpeners, ~ .05¢
Food Lion gum, storage baggies, foil/wrap, etc, etc.

Any other ideas??

Bartering...Let's Begin!

So, for those of you who read my post from yesterday, you know that Lori has started a movement for couponers around our area to barter for items we need. I think this is a great idea where we can trade what we may not need or have an excess of for things that we do need.

I have created a link for my spreadsheet of items I have to offer in trade (check out the 1st column of my side bar for the direct link). I'll add more items as I can inventory them. If you want to put this link on your website, you can find it here: http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AhEfEiMo1gRXdExJUnhoSUVvLWxxQUR0aXRTTlllR3c&hl=en

If you want me to add your link of items you have or want on my blog, just send me the link and I'll put it under mine.

I recommend we keep this to people in the area and/or people we know for now. If someone I know wants to barter with someone who is listed on my blog, I'd be more than happy to take care of the transaction for you, as I know not everyone works/lives in the same areas. That's why I will only post your list on my site if I have a connection to get the items from/to you. If we create a network, this will work a lot better.

I hope this will be a blessing to everyone....maybe we can get some wish lists posted soon of items we would like so that when I am couponing I can keep other people's needs in mind too. Often I can get something for free/cheap that I don't necessarily need or want, but if I knew someone else wanted it, I'd be more likely to get it.

Hop on board!!!

Make yourself a PRETTY envelope system

Money Saving Mom blogged about a cute idea she came across for making your own pretty envelopes, specially designed for those of you who use the cash/envelope system. I don't use this system, but I just love this idea!

Check it out here with complete step-by-step instructions (complete with links and photos) to make your own. Great idea for you crafty people....also good for a unique gift for those who you know do the envelope system. You could really personalize this with embossed monogram stickers, etc.

Bartering....what a great idea!

I read this post from a local couponer about her experience with bartering for items she needs. What a fantastic idea to trade items you have a surplus of with someone else who has a surplus of items you may want. Anyone that's local who is interested in doing this, please let me know.

I was beginning to wonder what I was going to do with all of my BBQ sauce and salad dressings!!! Now if I only could find someone who wanted all of these glucometers I have!

As a side note, I had heard that it was always good to donate glucometers to a local shelter, but what I have found is they can't use them because the person would have to pay a lot of money for the test strips, and the people frequenting the shelter don't have that kind of money. So, basically the product and donation is useless to them. Anyone else have ideas???

Coupon Fraud

Jenny at Southern Savers always has good information about coupon fraud; see her recent post here and older posts here, here, and here.

This is a permanent link to the CIC's website of known counterfiet coupons.

Some additional things to keep in mind:

1. Don't use a coupon past its expiration date, even by one day.
2. Don't use a coupon on a product or size different than what the coupon states it is for.
3. Don't use multiple manufacturer coupons on the purchase of a single item (most all coupons state one per purchase).
4. Beware of internet printable coupons that are too good to be true or PDF's that are not directly from the manufacturer's website.

In the end, coupon fraud and misuse costs us all. Honest couponers get hassled at the stores, the stores lose money, and the prices of the products go up....not to mention the fact that you're stealing and being dishonest. A good deal is only good if you play by the rules; there's no deal good enough to cheat the system for...another deal just like it will always come around.
